PART I: THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FRAMEWORK: WHAT’S IN IT?
What is in the final legislation?
The Comprehensive Plan Framework Element legislation is the city’s first step of putting together a 20-year guide for future growth and development. The Framework Element legislation is on its way to a final vote to become law. Join the Office of Planning and DCBIA developers and land-use attorneys to learn what the document means for the future of DC development and hear about the public process that follows this important first step.
PART II: DISCUSSION ON WHY PUDS ARE STILL A VIABLE TOOL
Lessons Learned in Major Cases
Thousands of housing units, including affordable housing, have been stuck in court as numerous lawsuits over the last four years have challenged Planned Unit Developments (PUDs). Facts and merits of each case vary, yet there have been some recent victories such as McMillan that are now moving forward. Hear from our panelists about the status of the cases and how the Comp Plan Framework, recent Office of Planning action, and the subsequent Comp Plan chapter process will impact the future of PUDs in DC.
The presentation will include:
- Walk-through of key PUD cases and rulings
- Showcasing why PUDs are such valuable tools to produce affordable housing
- Why we still need PUDs –a deep dive into the projects that left density on the table
- Examples: Barry Farm, Hechinger Mall/Benning Road at Starburst Plaza (Foulger Pratt), Parcel 42, Bruce Monroe, Fletcher, Tenleytown Metro
- PUD Process- Now turning the page – what does it mean in PUD process and industry, more confidence
These sessions will include Q&A
