Advocacy: DCBIA is a leader in real estate development advocacy, testifying on over 50 pieces of legislation or regulations a year – from affordable housing, condominium fees, construction codes, energy and sustainability issues, budget and commercial property tax assessment concerns, transportation reorganization, inclusionary zoning, land dispositions, public private partnerships, and much more.  Through our extensive committee structure, DCBIA members shape our positions on key issues affecting your business and impacting the economic health of our City. We continue to let elected officials know that we are the experts in real estate development in DC and continue to serve as the primary resource for the City. Through our outreach, elected officials and City leaders in Washington, DC know that DCBIA is the resource for thought leadership about our industry.

Committees:   https://dcbia.org/about/committees/

  • Depending on your calendar, a Committee can serve as:
  • Interest group (attend for you or your employees to keep up with current events)
  • Marketing tool (meet clients / customers in informal, monthly get-togethers)
  • Teaching forum (expose your younger professionals to the industry)
  • Working group (you can help with programming or government relations)

Events:  Each year, DCBIA holds three major signature events. The best black-tie affair in DC real estate development is DCBIA’s black-tie Annual Achievement Awards Dinner held each May. It attracts 1,000 real estate professionals and government leaders to recognize high achievement in DC real estate development. Our annual Golf Classic sells-out each year and is a major sponsorship opportunity for members. Finally, our highly-popular annual volunteer event, Community Improvement Day, was a $1 million, 1,000 volunteer investment in Ward 7 in 2015. We transformed a vacant lot into the city’s largest-scale urban farm. In 2016-7, DCHA’s Benning Terrace Recreation Center received well-needed improvements and will become a sports and recreation hub. In 2018, we beautified Keene Field in Ward 5. And in 2019, we did the first part of a 2-year upgrade to Oxon Run Park in Ward 8.

DCBIA hosts at least 20 events, seminars, forums each year featuring industry experts who speak on a wide range of topics, including: multifamily, capital markets, development and construction, leasing, sustainability, housing, small business development, investment sales, and more.  Everyone in your organization gets the member fee discount, typically 20% off the non-member fee. DCBIA also holds least 4 purely networking events each year. The venues we pick are new and exciting and the quality of the networking with DC’s best and brightest in real estate development can’t be beat.

Sponsorship:  DCBIA sponsorships are designed to meet your business needs and they maximize your DCBIA membership. From organizational-wide sponsorship, to sponsoring a series of events or sponsoring just one event, we can offer you a customized package.
