Dear DCBIA Community,
DC will expand the definitions of non-essential businesses, which will need to close during this public health emergency, to include personal services: salons, barbershops, tattoo parlors, and tanning salons, similar to the changes announced yesterday in Maryland and Virginia.
Earlier today, the Mayor has also signaled she will formally further expand the definition of non-essential businesses to include non-food retail such as clothing stores. Essential retailers, which will remain open, will include: grocery, pharmacy, hardware, and liquor stores.
We will share the official updated essential business definitions with you as soon as we receive it.

DCRA Virtual Town Hall
To protect their employees, the Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) will close their customer center and offices to the public beginning tomorrow. They are planning to move all in-person services online to stay operational at the same level as best they can, including offering “video consultations” for construction projects greater than 1,000 sq. ft. Construction can continue and DCRA also plans to continue to hold inspections.
We have specific questions about how DCRA and sister agencies are handling permit and fee payments to ensure construction continues as safely as possible.
Please share your questions or concerns with us too.
